Your superpower: I’m a storyteller and a connector. Regardless of the industry, I can see the story that needs to be told and look at the bigger picture, while creating partnerships between clients and brands in order to cultivate lasting buzz and true ROI.
A woman in history you admire & why:
One [woman] who stands out [to me] is Muriel “Mickie” Siebert, who is often known as “The First Woman of Finance”. She was the first woman to own a seat on the NYSE. Siebert was also a pioneer in the discount brokerage field, transforming her firm into a discount brokerage on the first day that NYSE members were allowed to negotiate commissions.
In 1977, she put her firm in a blind trust to become the first woman to hold the position of Superintendent of Banks for New York State. She held the position for five years, and under her watch, not a single banking institution failed. Mickie’s rise to the top was marked with challenges and obstacles, all of which she faced fiercely, head-on. She was scrappy and a trailblazer; how can you not admire that?
A (current) woman you admire & why:
I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by countless women I admire on a daily basis, from friends to clients. But if I had to choose one, I’d have to say my mother. She is the epitome of courage, resilience, strength, and grace. She has taught me what it means to speak my truth, to give back and be altruistic, to think “limitlessly”, and to do everything with integrity.
Quote/piece of advice that you live by:
“Speak your truth, even if your voice shakes.”
What inspired you to start your current venture?
I saw a need for big agency results while still giving the “white glove experience” that clients often want but can’t find with larger agencies. The more companies I worked with, the more I saw many of them pull away from a variety of agencies in order to fulfill that one need, while spending more than they needed to. Because of that, they were getting less impactful results.
Gulmi Consulting is a full service “corp-tique” PR, events, and marketing agency offering the resources and relationships of corporate firms with the attention and creativity of a boutique firm. From startups to household names, we give brands a voice. Our mission is to bring a unique point of view to your business by creating a definitive, clear, and signature narrative that adds value to your brandand meaning to your customers. Your brand is your story. Our role is to help you define, develop, and implement your brand identity so that it speaks for itself. That’s the beauty of brilliant branding. It requires less effort to communicate your vision to your consumers and build brand loyalty. The company’s purpose and mission becomes self-evident.
My client-centric, innovative model defies traditional agency boundaries through a streamlined, adaptive approach. With this approach in mind, the market quickly validated my model and I saw a tremendous amount of organic growth in my client base. I feel very lucky to work with incredible companies and entrepreneurs who inspire me daily, and I’m excited for those I’ll meet in the future.
What is one thing you have accomplished that you are most proud of?
I’m proud of the deals I’ve brokered for clients that have increased their visibility in the media, as well as their profitability. But what I’m most proud of are the stories that often don’t make it to the headlines —the ways in which we’ve given back. Whether it be encouraging a client to host an event or create a product that benefits a charitable organization, or donating to a domestic violence charity ourselves (a cause that is near and dear to my heart), I’m honored to have built a company that’s helping to create change for those who need it most.
What is some advice you’d like to give to other female founders & change-makers?
- Bet big on yourself. The only person who can tell you no is you — and you don’t have to listen. Remember that and your life will be limitless.
- When you climb the ladder, send it back down. Support one another. When many sharp minds with divergent areas of expertise work together, there’s no limit to what can be achieved. My amazing friend Gesche Haas created Dreamers//Doers, which increases the number of successful ventures launched by women. It’s a highly curated, female-focused, collaboration and co-mentorship community, consisting of an ever-growing powerful network of entrepreneurs, investors, and advisers. I’m a founding member and I am reminded on a daily basis that we truly are stronger together.
